Lightscribe has several great disadvantages, such as slow printing speed, bad contrast, dull colors, but it is much more handy, than having separate printer for just cd labeling, dealing with ink, cartridges, stick on labels and so on.

During my extensive lightscribe usage, I managed to tweak discs to achieve better (and interesting, too) results:

1. Making disc more glossy and brighter. I used Johnson’s baby oil for this task. spilled several droplets of it, on printed side of disc, wiped it all along the disc surface, then cleaned it dry, using dry towel. This gives much better surface feeling, and also makes disc 10-15% lighter. You need to very troughfully wipe disc dry, because if not, dirt will stick on it.

2. Add new colors to disc. I discovered this “feature” when I accidentially dropped a bit of pork fat onto lightscribe disc, and left it there for couple of days. When I wipe it off, I discovered that black color has gone, revealing bright yellow surface behind it (much more bright and light reflecting than lightscribe disc itself. If you remembered older, gold plated Kodak CD’s, this is nearly the same result). I continued tweaking in this direction, and discovered the following things:

• The more often you overprinted same place of disc, more easily is to remove black color from it. For example, if first printing, done at medium contrast, needs 2-3 weeks for black color to wanish, using the pig fat, if you overprinted same place at disc 3-4 times at maximum contrast, you’ll need just couple of hours to make black color lost
• As I can guess, black color coating somehow reacts to fatty acids, contained in pig fat. I haven’t experimented with other fatty acids, since this gives me satisfactory results, but you can try any other solvents (I already tried household detergents – no result)

so to have 3 color discs (general disc color, bright and shiny disc color, black color) you need to do the following:

• Overprint disc areas you want to make brighter, several times.
• Process them with pig fat (put on it, leave for 2-3 hours, then gently wipe off)
• Go and wash disc with generic household dishwashing liquid.

You’ll have nice and shiny discs.

Unfortunately, I don’t have camera now (mine was broken during seaside rest). As I’ll get it, I’ll update this post with photos of sample discs.

There are myriad of music videos websites around the internet, so a certain visitor may think about our website  – “gee, just another video blog”, and will be completly wrong. There are some key factors, which make us different from others.

1. We aren’t hosted on ad clogged free hosting, and don’t put any ads on this webpage (doing so for last 8 years).

2. We generally submit hard to find/rare videos, or their remixes/remakes

3. We mostly focus on eurodance and italo disco, no black bro’s and bling bling rapping

4. In most cases, videos are digitally remastered by us, using various filtering and quality improvement techniques.

5. This means – videos in most case come with DVD quality, high resolution, crystal clear audio.

10 Years ago, there were no SMS service widespread, so we had no idiotic overlays over music videos on music channels. Today we have, their quantity is increasing and increasing, so I decided to sort out a list of satellite channels from where you can record videos w/o ads and sms chats. This review includes most of satellites from 90E to 5E (19.2E and 28.2E ASTRA fleet are out of my reception area, so no info about them).

So, let’s start:

1. Russian one, Yamal 201, 90E. Ad free music videos can be found here on channel “MUSIC BOX TV”, which broadcasts at C band, so you’ll need at least 180cm to get it. Also, videos can be recorded from “CTC” and “Domashniy” (at their “night musical show”, which is around middle of day by european time). These channels broadcast at Ku band, so 120cm should be enough for most europe. Of course, there are another musical channels on this satellite, but they are clogged with on-screen ads.

2. Again, Russian one, Express AM22, 53E. Here we have absolutely brilliant, almost no ads channel “World Music Channel”. It mainly focuses on dance and club music, trough. Again 120cm dish will be enough. Also, above mentioned “CTC” and “Domashniy” broadcast here also, but w/o timeshift this time, so you’ll get these videos very deep deep night only.

3. This time Turkish one, Turksat, 42E. While there’s myriad of music channels there, most are clogged by sms and ads. There’s a channel, called “NR1 Hits channel” which sometimes broadcasts selection of music videos from single artist, without ads and sms. Image quality not so great as in case with russian satellites. 90cm dish should be enough.

 4. Arabian fleet, Eurobird/BADR (25.5/26E). Here we can watch MTV Arabia, which is mostly ad and SMS free, and also airs good selection of old music videos, under label “rewind”. Again, 90cm dish is reccomended.

5. Hotbirds, 13E. Here, video clips w/o ads and sms can be obtained from the following channels:

Tele Melody, French channel, mostly old french shows and videos, good quality, good sound. Will left Hotbird during this autumn.

TRACE TV, also, not a bad choice of videos.

Video Bergamo, good choice of music videos, but awful quality of image.

VH1 is still there and watchable, but these guys actually show only these EUROPEAN videos, which were ever popular in USA. So you’ll get very limited number of videos there.

VIVA Polska. Ad & sms-free videos can be recorded at friday night, from show “Specialista”, where they focus on specific artist or genre, or during morning (6.00-9.00 Polish time).

ALL MUSIC. Italian channel, also not a bad choice of mainstream pop hits, but mostly, Italian ones.

Virgin 17. French channel, very good choice of music, old and new videos.

To receive Hotbird fleet, 60cm is enough for most european countries.

6. Sirius, 5E. Here music videos without logo and SMS can be recorded from “Star TV” or from “OCK Odessa”, first focuses mostly on dance/house music, while 2nd – on mainstream pop.

Currently, that’s all. Here I included channels that broadcast english/french spoken music, I’ve not included any national music channels. I will update this post, as soon I’ll have more data.
